Homages Flow for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without mirth".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles judge ruled to prevent the disclosure of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a restriction on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
Following the tragedy, public figures offered different comments.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering controversial remarks that were widely condemned by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the critics last week. Speaking on his show, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disturbing" and remarked they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an aide could have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the death was made.
